Anna and Brian’s Fort Snelling engagement session was the definition of classic and heartfelt. When they asked if we could take their photos on base, where Brian has been a member of the Air National Guard for the past ten years, I was completely honored and so excited to be a part of something so special.
It was a beautiful fall day, filled with warm evening sun and fall colors. I got to see behind the scenes including Brian’s office and his big armored truck. Their sweet Boxer Dempsey even came along for the fun too! (note his dashing tuxedo bandana).
There was something about being on the base, standing in front of vintage aircraft, watching Anna and Brian dance in the golden light dressed in traditional Airfare blues and a classic black dress, listening to the soundtrack of planes flying overhead.. It was such a timeless scene. I kept envisioning the old photographs I’ve seen of my grandparents when they were in the service, thinking about how these images are going to go down in history for generations to come. The tones and the grain from the film brought the feeling full circle. It was such a great reminder that photography isn’t just about taking “pretty pictures”, but about making heirlooms.
Anna and Brian, it has been such a joy getting to know you (in the most funny and fateful of ways!). I have no doubt that our meeting each other back at Modern was meant to be. You are both so thoughtful and down to earth; I feel like we could sit at dinner for hours talking about work, life, technology.. and of course, dogs! When I found out we shared a love for Boxers, my heart was sold 🙂 When you two are together there is definitely an energy, and neither of you can ever stop smiling. You have such a sweet love and are so perfect for each other. I cannot wait for the big day!
And Brian – I just want to say thank you so much for your service and all you have done for our country. It has been an honor to hear about your travels and your stories overseas. I admire your bravery and dedication in all you do. It is in no comparison, but thank you for giving me an opportunity to serve you in the best way I know how, by letting me photograph such cherished moments of you in your uniform in this special place with Anna.
